I got it in my head that building a Tricopter would be awesome. I was right.

I built this thing out of 3mm plywood and some 12mm pine I had lying around, it's held together mostly with foam tape and zipties, and it is all kinds of awesome.

I'm using a KK2.0 flight controller, cheap turnigy motors and Rx, Turnigy Plush ESCs. It's 600mm (23 inch) motor to motor, and weighs 1180g (2.6 lbs) fully laden with a gopro and video transmitter.

Below is a pic of it before its maiden flight, and before some modifications made as a result of crashing.

I just got a set of FatShark video goggles for it, you can see the tiny camera hanging underneath, which transmits live video for FPV flying. It's awesome.

My FSAE team recently did some testing at an airstrip on the University's farm, I took some aerial footage with the copter and a scratched up old GoPro. This was before I had the video goggles, so it was all flown line of sight.

I hope that video works, the music may stop it playing in some countries...

I aim to get some footage at the FSAE-Australia comp, hopefully the safety guys don't kick me out...

Kickass! I want to build one, along with too many other RC things.

I would love for someone to get air to air footage of my planes. My hulk has unlimited vertical, it would be badass to see it from a multirotor

Great job! Building an RC tricopter from scratch is a highly commendable project.

I have a Traxxas Slash VXL and I plan to take it out and do some FPV runs with my sucky Emerson action cam when it gets a bit warmer.

That's the problem with RC, you just can't stop building new models!

Multirotor footage of 3D acro flying looks really awesome. I've got quite a way to go before I'm willing to risk flying near someone else's models though! I've got some mates who do pylon racing at that same airstrip, so in the future I may head out there and record some of that.

Thanks, it's really satisfying to build something that works, and when you break it, it's easier to fix too!

FPV on a car would be pretty awesome, you wouldn't have to deal with the height perception issues that you get with aircraft. I got seriously disoriented the first few flights, because I was flying around and all of a sudden I realised I was WAY above the treeline...

If I had tons of money, I'd get a DJI phantom and use the position hold to record myself.

The biplane fills one of the slots I wanted a giant scale imaa legal plane. I traded a 480 parkflyer for it and sold a bunch of miscellaneous stuff to fund the conversion, so it worked out well.

I think I'd like another 32 size sport plane, but I'm out of room to take planes to the field. The sonic is roomy but it's still small!

I'm really not a fan of going hands-off with one of those things on GPS position hold. Look up how many flyaways have been reported with DJI products and you'll see what I mean... It always makes me cringe when people think that the position hold is a "set and forget" thing, it's just as dangerous as going hands off on any other RC aircraft... You either need full autonomy (not available outside military or a University UAV lab) or a person on the sticks in case something goes wrong...

You need one of those rooftop pods, you could probably get a few more models in one of those with the wings off... Seems pretty ambitious using a sonic as a plane transporter! I made the front booms of my copter fold up so that it fits on the parcel shelf of my Golf, I strap it down there so it doesn't make itself independent, and is out of the way of other cargo.

For the biplane I have to put the passenger seat all the way forward (including the seatback), and fold everything else down. The tail sits where the passenger seat was, and I put bungees between the armrests to hold up the wings.
